As the sun began to rise over New Domino City, Akiza Izinski was awakened from her slumber by the sun's rays piercing the blinds over her windows. As she awoke, she rubbed her eyes and sat up, letting out a small yawn. She got out of bed, put her slippers on, and walked over to her blinds, opening them to let the entirety of the sun's bright rays illuminate her room. She stretched her arms high into the air, letting out a satisfied sigh. "I wonder what I can do today. Yusei said he'd be busy today, so I can't bother him. I guess I'll just go for a walk in the city", she said to herself. She got dressed in her usual outfit, pulled her socks and shoes on, grabbed her duel disk, then left for the city.
As she walked through the city, taking in the sites and sounds as the people walked by and cars ran through the streets. By this time, the sun was high in the cloudless sky above the city. "Ahhh, it's such a beautiful day today. I wish there was someone I could spend some time with. A day like this is best shared with someone", she said to herself.
Just then, she heard a familiar voice come from behind her. "Akiza, Akiza, come quick, come quick", the voice said. She turned to see her friend, Leo, followed by his twin sister, Luna. "What's wrong, Leo", she replied. Leo and Luna stopped in front of her, Leo catching his breath from running. "You gotta come with us. A guy came to the Tops and he uses plants like you do", he said. Akiza look surprised. "I didn't have anything to do today, so seeing this duelist might be fun", she quietly whispered to herself. "Alright, sounds like fun", she said. "Yahoo", Leo exclaimed. Luna shook her head in embarrassment. "Leo, calm down. You don't need to be so loud. People are watching", she told him, still shaking her head. The three of them headed off to the Tops.
After about an hour, they finally arrived at their destination. They looked around, trying to find any sign of a duel in progress. "Where did the guy go", Leo exclaimed, disappointment in his voice. A man came walking up to them. "If you're looking for that plant duelist that's been winning duels right and left, he's around the corner. He just finished up his duel", he said, before walking away. The three of them hurried around the corner.
As they rounded the corner, they saw a man standing there shuffling a deck. "That's him! That's the guy", Leo exclaimed, catching the attention of the man. The man was dressed in a black hat, a long black coat, blue jeans, and black boots.
"Hello, how are you three", the man replied, bowing. "My name is Van and it's a pleasure to meet you", he said, smiling. Akiza smiled, pleasantly surprised by his polite mannerisms. "I'm Leo, this is my sister, Luna, and this is your next opponent, Akiza Izinski", Leo told him, gesturing to each person accordingly. "Hey, Leo, not so fast; what makes you think I want to duel him", she replied. "Aww, c'mon Akiza, ya gotta duel this guy. I wanna see who wins between two plant duelists", Leo exclaimed.
"Well, I've got nothing better to do today, so I guess it's fine", she whispered to herself.
Van spoke up. "I would consider it an honor to duel you, Akiza", he declared, as he sat down at a table. "I'm a bit old school, so would it be okay if we dueled without duel discs", he continued. Akiza smiled. "Alright, sounds like fun", she smiled as she took her position opposite of Van. Van snickered a bit. "What's so funny, Van", Akiza asked. He looked at her. "It's nothing really. I couldn't help but overhear that you have nothing better to do today. How about we make a small wager", he asked. Akiza looked at him. "What kind of wager", she inquired of him. "How about, if I win, I have the honor of going on one date with you for the rest of the day", he smiled. Akiza blushed a little bit. She had never been asked on a date before. "Sorry, but I have someone I
admire, so I'll have to pass on that", she stated. "I never asked for something long term, my dear. I simply wish to give you something to pass the time today. What do you say", he inquired. She thought for a moment. "Very well, that sounds fine to me", she answered. With the life points set to 4000, the duel was begun.
"Ladies first", Van snickered. Akiza smiled, "Very well, I draw", she stated. As she looked through her hand, a sly smile stretched across her face. "I hope you're ready for this, Van. First, I summon Twilight Rose Knight (1000 atk) in attack mode. Then, using his special ability, I special summon Botanical Lion (1600 atk) in attack mode. Now, I'll use them both to synchro summon my Black Rose Dragon (2400 atk)", she exclaimed. "I'll lay two cards face down and end my turn", she continued.
Van only smiled in amazement. "Wow, to think that you were able to pull out such a powerful monster in your first turn; I can only congratulate you. Good job", he stated. "I'll summon Spirit Reaper (200 def) in defense mode. He can't be destroyed by battle, but if he's targeted by any effect, be it by spell, trap, or monster, he's destroyed instantly. I'll lay two cards face down and end my turn", he declared.
Akiza looked puzzled. "I thought you used plants. Was that piece of information wrong", she inquired. Van shook his head. "I do use plants and they are the main force of my deck, but I use other kinds of monsters to bolster my defenses to really bring out the power of my deck", he answered. Akiza nodded. "I see. Well, let's continue. I draw", she declared. "Now, I'll use my Black Rose Dragon's special effect. By removing 1 Plant type monster from play, I can switch your monster into attack mode and remove all of its attack points, so I'll remove my Botanical Lion to, in this case, destroy your Spirit Reaper. Now, I'll attack with my Black Rose Dragon", she declared again.
"Not so fast, Akiza", Van responded. "You've activated my trap, Mirror Force". "My Black Rose Dragon", she exclaimed. Van looked at her. "It had to be done, Akiza. Now, what shall you do", he asked. She looked confused, wondering if he knew what she would do next. "I activate the quick play spell, Seed of Deception, so I can special summon my Dark Verger (1000 def) in defense mode. Now I end my turn", she finished.
"Very well, I draw", Van looked at his cards, and then snickered. "Sorry, Akiza, but if you no cards to protect you this turn, then I win", he told her. She looked shocked. "How do you mean", she asked. "I'll show you", he answered. "First, I summon Lonefire Blossom (500 atk) in attack mode. Using its special ability, I can tribute it to summon any plant from my deck. So I'll special summon my Gigaplant (2400 atk) in attack mode. I'm sure you know of it. It needs to be summoned again in order to gain its effect, but that's no problem once I activate the spell, Double Summon. Now, I can normal summon it again to gain its effect. Using its effect, I'll bring my back Lonefire Blossom and, once again, tribute it to summon another Gigaplant from my deck. Next, I'll equip it with Supervise, so it can gain its effect. Once again, I'll use its effect to bring back Lonefire, and tribute it again to bring out my Tytannial, Princess of Camellias (2800 atk).
Akiza look stunned. "Three powerful monsters summoned in one turn. Well, you are a good duelist", she told him. "Sorry, Akiza, but this is the end; Gigaplant attack", he declared. Akiza let a sly smile creep across her face. "You've just activated my trap, Wall of Thorns! Now, all your monsters are gone", she spoke assuredly. Van snickered. "Sorry, but I activate MY trap, Seven Tools of the Bandit", he proclaimed. "By paying 1000 life points, I can negate and destroy your trap", he continued. His life points dropped to 3000, but with her last defense gone, his attacked continued and destroyed her Dark Verger. Akiza looked at her field. "The only protection for my life points gone. I can't do anything", she said, under her breath. "It was a good duel, Akiza, but it's over now", Van said as he declared his last two attacks, dropping her life points from 4000 to 0 in an instant. Leo, Luna, and Akiza look stunned.
"WOW, I CAN'T BELIEVE HE BEAT AKIZA", Leo yelled at the top of his lungs. "Yeah, I thought Akiza was the best plant duelist there was", said a still stunned Luna.
Akiza shook her head, then looked at Van with a smile on her face. "Well, you won. You're a great duelist, Van", said Akiza. "Since you won, I guess you get that date now", she continued. Van smiled. "Thank you for accepting my terms. Shall we go now", he inquired. Akiza picked her deck up and put it away. "Sure, let's get going. I see you later, Leo and Luna", she said to the twins. Leo spoke up, "Aww, can't I come". Luna quickly scolded him, "Leo, three's a crowd. Have fun, Akiza". Leo let out a groan of disappointment as the two of them went on their way.
As the day went on, Van and Akiza went to the movies, the amusement park, and to look at some flowers at a local flower shop. The two eventually made it to the park where they took a seat on a nearby bench. A gentle breeze blew through the area as the sun began to set.
"Ah, my feet are killing me", said a sore Akiza. Van smiled and looked at her. "I could rub them for you, if you would allow me", said Van. Akiza blushed deeply, not knowing how to respond to his statement, but her feet were really sore. "Yes, you may, but not for too long. I'm really ticklish", she told him. Van nodded as she lifted her feet into his lap. He took her shoes and socks off and slowly rubbed circles into her feet with his thumbs. She let out a relieved sigh as she laid back. "That feels incredible, Van. Thank you for this", she stated. "Glad you're enjoying yourself", he replied. After a few minutes of massaging, Akiza sighed contently. "My feet are feeling much better now, Van", she told him. Van smiled slyly. "Oh, are they now", he snickered.
Suddenly, Van wrapped his arm around her ankles and begat scratching at her soles. Akiza suddenly jumped and began laughing. "AHAHAHAHAHAHA VAN STOHAHAHAP", she yelled, trying to pull her feet away. Van only laughed. "Tickle tickle tickle, Akiza", he playfully retorted. He kept tickling her feet and toes for a few more minutes. "VAHAHAHAN PLEHEHEHEHEASE STOHAHAHAP", she yelled. Passer-bys looked at the two of them and couldn't help but laugh a little. Van smiled and let go. "If you insist, Akiza", he smiled as he put her socks and shoes back on. She tried to catch her breath as he put them back on. She punched his arm. "That wasn't fair, Van", she told him as she stood up. "I'm going home", she told him. He could tell he overstepped his bounds. "Alright, Akiza, I apologize. I was only playing", he assured her.
She turned and looked at him, then smiled. "Alright, I'll give you one more chance", she told him. Van smiled back. "Actually, I just have one thing I wanted to tell you then I'll be off", he told her. Akiza looked confused. "What's that", she asked, sitting next to him.
"Akiza, I know you have feelings for Yusei", he told her. Akiza blushed. "I-I don't know what you are t-talking about", she tried to assure him, as well as herself. Van smiled then laughed a bit before a serious look overtook his face. "Akiza, you have to tell him how you feel. Life is never as full as it should be without love. Love is such a wonderful thing and I know he feels the same way about you", he said. Akiza blushed deeper. "You
you really think so", she asked. Van nodded, smiling. "Of course, I know so", he assured her. Just then, Yusei came running up. "Akiza, sorry I'm late, I had some repairs I needed to take care of at Martha's place", he yelled.
Akiza turned, looking surprised. "Y-Yusei? What are you doing here", she asked. Yusei looked puzzled. "You called me here, didn't you", he asked. Van couldn't help but snicker. Akiza looked at Van. "You called him here", she asked. Van stood up, smiling all the while. "There are so many questions being thrown around. This is not the place for questions, only facts. Isn't there something you had to say, Akiza", he asked her. Akiza blushed a deep red, fiddling with her fingers. "Yusei
I love you, Yusei. Ever since you saved me at the Fortune Cup, I've had feelings for you. I love you with all my heart, Yusei", she declared. Yusei looked stunned and there was silence in the air for a minute. Yusei finally broke the silence. "I love you, too, Akiza. After everything we've been through, our spirits have connected on such a deep level. I truly feel so connected with you", he told her. Akiza blushed as tears ran down her face. "Oh Yusei", she exclaimed as she hugged him. Yusei returned her hug. "I'll never leave your side again, Akiza", he told her. The two shared a heartfelt kiss under the setting sun.
Suddenly, the two heard the sound of clapping. "I'm so happy to see the two of you finally acknowledging your feelings for each other", he proclaimed. Akiza looked at him. "Thank you, Van. Thank you for finally giving me the courage to tell Yusei how I feel", she told him, still holding onto Yusei. Van took his hat off and held it to his chest as he bowed. "Glad to be of help. Now, it's time I left for home", he told them. Just then, smoke began to surround him. "You'll see me again one day, but for now, enjoy your love. You've got the rest of your lives to be together", he declared before vanishing before their very eyes. The pair looked stunned. "Who was that, Akiza", Yusei asked her. Akiza looked confused, then smiled. "He was just a friend, Yusei. One who knew me better than I thought", she told him. The two shared another kiss before heading home, hand in hand as the sun finally disappeared beyond the horizon. From that day forward, Akiza and Yusei never forgot their love for each other nor the man who helped them on that one beautiful day.
